Rejuvenator/Sealer
The Most Commonly Asked Questions…
What is Rejuvenator/Sealer?
The product is a blend of coal-tar, coal-tar oils and maltenous type rejuvenating
agents. It is designed to penetrate into the asphalt surface, to chemically
improve the asphalt pavement. It is not a "water based" sealcoat that only coats
the surface and cannot improve the pavement. Rejuvenator/Sealer has gained rapid
acceptance in the industry, but beware cheap imitations that are now on the
market. A high quality Rejuvenator/Sealer must meet all of its own "ASTM" performance
tests, and have "FAA" Engineering Brief 44-A certification.
How does Rejuvenator/Sealer
work?
Oxidation of the asphalt binder causes the pavement to become hard and brittle.
Rejuvenators reverse oxidative hardening (the aging process of asphalt), replace
essential oils lost through oxidation, and stop raveling (the loss of small
stones in the pavement).
How is Rejuvenator/Sealer
applied?
The Rejuvenator is applied with state-of-the-art high volume equipment utilizing
computer-controlled flow rate nozzles for a uniform, one-step application that
minimizes downtime. When should Rejuvenator/Sealer be applied? The Rejuvenator
may be applied to all types of asphalt during the life of the pavement; results
will vary with age. On newer pavements treatments every 3 to 5 years will considerably
extend the life of the pavement. It should not be applied over a sealcoat or
coating until the coating has been significantly worn off, as they will inhibit
the penetration of the Rejuvenator.
How much does
Rejuvenator/Sealer cost?
The bottom line, Rejuvenator is competitive in price to a sealcoat, if the sealcoat
is not "watered down" or applied too thin. Rejuvenator will cost about one to
two cents a square foot more then a quality sealcoat. However, on the average
a sealcoat needs to be applied every 2 to 3 years. The Rejuvenator needs be
applied every 3 to 5 years, providing a 25% cost savings.
